In September of 2009, Winston Salem Forsyth County Schools began construction on the Carter School site on Highland Avenue in central Winston Salem. The Carter School site is approximately 15 acres on the site of the existing Kennedy Middle School.
The first phase of the project includes the Carter Special Education High School. The next phase will include the Vocational Career Center and Career Tech Buildings. Following construction of all phases two-hundred thousand square feet of classroom space will have been constructed on the site, along with required parking and drives.
The project will also include development of an adjacent offsite area for parking. The project will increase the built upon area on the site from 20% to 60%. The City of Winston Salem post-construction stormwater ordinance requires detention of the increase in runoff volumes following development. It also requires stormwater treatment for new built upon area.
DMP developed a system of underground sand filters and storm water detention devices to best utilize the limited space available on the Carter School Site.
The Carter School Stormwater system has the following design characteristics:
Stability... Value... Experience... let our experience make yours better!
