Davis-Martin-Powell & Associates provided complete planning, design, and construction services for the expansion of the Ward Water Treatment Plant. This $10.7 million project increased treatment capacity from 16 MGD to 32 MGD and was completed in 1999. The facility treats water from Oak Hollow and City Lake and provides finished water to citizens of High Point, Archdale, Jamestown and surrounding areas.

Hypochlorite is used as the primary disinfectant and ammonia is available to reduce disinfection byproduct formations.
The design also includes a PLC based distributed control system (SCADA) to allow central operation and monitoring of the plant processes and equipment.
Other improvements included a 6,000 square foot maintenance facility, office renovations, and additional laboratory facilities.
