Polo’s worldwide distribution facility occupies 69.5 acres in High Point, North Carolina. The 389,000 square foot expansion involved approximately 25 acres of that property, with a civil construction cost of approximately $3,000,000. New and reconfigured parking areas comprised approximately 6 acres.
Wetland and water quality issues were a tremendous first obstacle with the expansion and we had to make presentation to the State of North Carolina Environmental Management Commission in order to exceed the 150 LF limit on removal of perennial stream. Mitigation involved a DWQ-quality wet detention pond. We were successful and received project approval from EMC at our first hearing.
Subsequent projects in 2001 and 2002 included design, permitting, construction administration, and management of a permanent access road to Tarrant Road. Controlled access installations, including two additional guard shacks, were also added at this time.
Davis-Martin-Powell continues to assist with further expansion of Polo’s loading dock area, as well as to inventory all their parking lots, make maintenance recommendations and provide renovation documents.
DMP is proud to have assisted Polo in the expansion to their current 1.10 million square-foot facilities in Piedmont Centre.
